Ok guys. When did the Doors first play at the London Fog?? Gotta get the start date for that pinned down for reasons of accuracy.
i don't know if this has been discussed here, but there is a book out buy frank liciandro called "jim morrison friends gathered together".
the book is a collection of conversations that frank liciandro had with friends and close colleagues of iim morrison. this book answers the question that is often asked: "what was he really like?" who better to answer this question and a whole lot more than the people who really knew him. every conversation is interesting to read.
if you are interested in getting a glimpse into who jim morrison really was, you have to read this book. i think it's the best book about jim i've read.
On this date in Lowell, Mass, Jim Morrison tried to visit Jack Kerouac and was turned away at the door by his wife, Stella. She advised him to get a haircut (or a hairnet). On that day she also wrote Dan DeSole, acting as Kerouac's psychiatrist of a sort, updating him on Gabrielle's condition (she had a stroke in 1966) and their mutual concern for Jack's deteriorating health. Lowell doctors that treated Jack had nicknamed him the "Walking Dead Man" between themselves, advising him that he wouldn't last another year at his rate of drinking alcohol. Time would tell that they were indeed correct. As for Stella, she was given the role of gatekeeper, sending visitors (like Morrison) on their way so as not to exacerbate her husband's drinking.
Onstage that day, Morrison was intoxicated, shocked himself on a microphone, swore out loud and was warned by a police officer. He mispronounced "lowell" and asked the audience where "Kerouac was." He left the Commodore Ballroom in between two bouncers who dragged him out. Onlookers waiting by the backstage door saw the toes of his lizard skin boots dragging in the dirt as he was carried to a waiting car for a ride back to the hotel.
In memory of Jim Morrison & the day he was born... My husband & I will be jamming to THE DOORS starting Friday 12am - Sunday 11:59pm on BLAST!!!!
