Our The Doors Collection
You surely know the name Jim Morrison. You've heard of the Rolling Stones. The name Tony Funches may not be as familiar, but it will be, once you read the book he's writing. Tony's got ten thousand personal stories, and NOW is the time for him to tell them.
After a stint in Vietnam with the USAF, Tony returned home to Los Angeles where Doors manager, Bill Siddons, somehow convinced him to watch out for Jim Morrison. And man, did he ever. Tony was Jim's friend, confidant, protector and ass-saver. They partied hard together to be sure, but Jimbo NEVER missed a gig (or died) when Tony Funches was around.
Flash to Tony Funches onstage with the Stones at Altamont. Yup. He worked for them, too. In film footage, he is the tall brother with one arm in a makeshift splint. (Knocking out Angels is not easy.) The Stones road manager, Sam Cutler, was also there. Tony and Sam are lifelong friends, but have not seen each other in decades.
And this, friendly funders, is why this GoFundMe page exists. Sam Cutler will be in Northern California for a visit in late June. He lives in Australia, so this is a very rare visit. Tony lives in Colorado. This GoFundMe project is solely intended to pay for Tony's travel costs to and from the Bay Area for book research. Getting Tony and Sam together in the same room will be a monumental boon to the book project. It will be also be one whale of a time, and I am delighted and amazed to have been invited to be part of it all.
My name is Kaanii Powell, and I am facilitating this reunion/research as best I can. Having contributed to several other people's funding projects, I KNOW this can work. If you are a Doors fan, a Rolling Stones fan, a friend of Tony, Barry Fey or Sam Cutler, or JUST AN ALL AROUND SWEETHEART-- PLEASE contribute to this once-inna-lifetime event. It needs doing.
been a doors fan for 40 years, [im 53], jim was a fantastic poet and used a lot of mythology and symbolism in his lyrics i.e. in ''the end'' he makes reference to ''Sophocles Oedipus rex'' and ''platos republic'' among many other things. plus ray, robby and john were equally talented as being poetic with their musical talents. in my opinion they were the best talent in rock and roll. I once shared a joint with ray manzarek 24 years ago and met john densmore at the record archive in Rochester ny last april, 2 truly great experiences. I also saw john and ray perform as riders on the storm about 6 years ago and as a hard core doors fan must say it was the worst concert I have ever seen. they had the singer from fuel trying to sing jims songs and he butchered all of them
