Although The Doors never recieved a GRAMMY award for albums they recorded when they were active, the were awarded a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY at the 2007 Grammy Awards.

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said, "Their contributions exemplify the highest artistic and technical standards that have positively affected the music industry and music fans."

The Recording Academy lists the Lifetime Achievement Grammy as [a] " Special Merit Award presented by vote of The Recording Academy's National Trustees to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording. "
