Hi-

Ok guys. When did the Doors first play at the London Fog?? Gotta get the start date for that pinned down for reasons of accuracy.

Thanks!!

Read Ray's book, and that pretty much will give you all the detailed info that you need. What better way to get accuracy, then to get from someone who was there....(:

I wish that I could design the new Doors releases. I'd place stamps on them so people would know they were re releases and a 45rpm sticker on the Infinite Versions as well as Part 1 of 6 so they cannot be sold separately ruining the box set also the new pressing dates like Originally released January 4,1967 re pressing June 13, 2012.

Can we expect this show to be released anytime soon?

@Encuentro. Based on the timeframe, I think you would better off comparing the London Fog performance with the performances at the Matrix vs the blues covers from '69/70 when he was a bonified blues man. Regarding Ray's playing.. although Ray did not have a Fender Rhodes keyboard bass at the time, he did still have two hands..  :-)   which allowed him to play the bass lines on the lower register of the Vox and solo with his right hand.  So I don't think people will hear that much of a difference.  There will still be a "bottom" on the Fog recording.  Just not as deep as with a  Fender Rhodes.

How do the performances of the blues covers compare with performances of the same songs in '69-'70? How does the band sound without bass?

Thanks, Dave.

@Encuentro, at this point I would consider it "lost". If it does become "found" in the future though, you know we will be the first to scream it from the mountain tops. :-)  That isn't information that would be kept secret.

LF recording... Awesome,be great to hear that

The only recorded live vesion of "Strange Days"! Plus the only recorded version of The Doors performing Wilson Pickett's "Don't Fight It".  I should add that Jim did use a few improvisations from "Don't Fight It" in other songs when performing live, most notably, "There You Sit"  that he would insert into "Break On Through" and occasionally "Light My Fire".

From a 1965 issue of the publication 'Nite Life West' regarding how Jesse James came up with the name 'London Fog': "Asked how he came to call it 'London Fog', Jesse replied he was combing his hair to look like the Beatles, and with his hair down over his eyes, he remarked, 'Looking through my hair is like looking in a London fog'. Immediately the idea struck him as the name for his new club."

Everybody has probably already seen these, but pretty awesome picture nonetheless. It's crazy how young they look.

@Encuentro. Correct. I think this one, and one other were included in the "She Smells So Nice" slideshow on the LA Woman DVD.

Here is a great painting of the London Fog as it would have looked back when The Doors played there. This was painted at my request by an incredible artist and friend, Stephan Beauvais (stephanbeauvais@yahoo.fr) for use on my London Fog Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/LondonFogSunsetStrip). He has also painted some incredible portraits of the Doors in his distinctive style. Great stuff!
