ARCHIVED TOUR DATE

MAR 01 1969
Miami, FL
Dinner Key Auditorium
Show Notes:

On March 1, 1969, at the Dinner Key Auditorium in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, The Doors gave the most controversial performance of their career, one that nearly "derailed the band".[Allmusic.com] The auditorium was a converted seaplane hangar that had no air conditioning on that hot night, and the seats had been removed by the promoter in order to boost ticket sales. I was there, had just turned 16 and worked the concession stand. That was my way to see concerts back then. When Jim Morison was snaked through the crowd he lost his wallet.I turned it into him after the show. Got a kiss from him and all the band members and his autograph. I didn't have it dated so I am asking anyone who was in the room after the concert or has any memory of this to text a comment. What a thrill, kissed by Jim Morrison!!

I was there! And I live one block from the infamous auditorium on Biscayne Bay. Jim did not expose himself. I dropped by the trial, too. If he had done that, quite a few would have come forward with photos. A photographer was there and he took a steady stream of photos none of which showed that happening. The judge would not allow those photos to be admitted. It's hard to believe it's been so long ago.

@sheuerma it was one of the most amazing nights of my life. We were young kids who had to sneak around our parents to go - and those parents were none too happy with rebelling kids of the 60's!

I have no story that could ever beat that.
