When the still sea conspires an armor
And her sullen and aborted
Currents breed tiny monsters
True sailing is dead
Awkward instant
And the first animal is jettisoned
Legs furiously pumping
Their stiff green gallop
And heads bob up
In mute nostril agony

My 6th grade teacher asked me to recite this piece, Horse Latitudes, in front of the class, which I did, in 1967. All of my friends used to ask me to do it, and the teacher overheard me reciting it outside for them one morning. I used to try to do it like Jim Morrison. My teacher loved poetry, and I could tell that he was very impressed, asking me who wrote it, and said it was very interesting in front of the class. The Doors are obviously one of the most unique and talented bands in rock history!
