Album Details

Release Date: October 25, 1971

Released in 1971, It was the first album released by the band following the death of lead singer Jim Morrison.

The recording of the album began while lead singer Jim Morrison was on holiday in France. The song "Down on the Farm" was allegedly already written at the time of the recording of the previous album, but Morrison did not want to include it. According to keyboardist Ray Manzarek, some of the songs had been rehearsed with Morrison before he left for Paris.

The three remaining members of the band regrouped and released the album in October three months after Morrison's death. Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger took Morrison's place as lead singers.

  1. [An] undeniable plus to Other Voices(1971) is that after being relegated as sidemen, each of the players is given an outlet for their songs and underutilized talents.

As far as I know, there are at least a couple of '2 in 1' unofficial (or should I say bootleg) CD releases that compile both albums in a single CD.
One of them it even has non-LP sides such as 'Treetrunk'. I haven't got them with me right now, so I can't give further details.
I think it could be a good idea to launch an official updated release as they are not as bad as most people think, maybe because they lack the 'Morrison mystique' and, of course, they wouldn't sell as well as the rest of the discography.
Another puzzling detail is the fact that the original album was released by Elektra and not Rhino, as captioned. When I saw it, I thought the official reissue was coming down the way, but it must be just the download format which is only available in the US (funny thing, given the presumed universality of the Internet...).

It would be cool to see a physical release of this and Full Circle.
